What is CuttleBone?

Cuttle bone also known as Cuttlefish Bone, isn’t actually a bone. It is the light weight and very porous shell that is used for buoyancy by Cuttlefish.

They are primarily made of Calcium and Aragonite. They and are much softer than actual bone and have a chalk like feel to them.

What Do I Use Cuttlebone For

Cuttle bone is used as a source of calcium for Turtles, Tortoises, Birds, Isopods, Hermit Crabs, Shrimp, Snails, and even Chinchillas and other small animals.

Since the Cuttlebone is made of approx 85% Calcium Carbonate. It makes for a very low cost, and enriching treat for your pets.

Feeding Cuttlebone To Turtles And Tortoise

Turtles and Tortoise need lots of calcium in their diet. Adding cuttlebone is an inexpensive way of supply them with this necessary mineral. It also adds additional enrichment and entertainment for your pet. By chewing on the Cuttlebone, it will also help trim their beaks.

Feeding Cuttlebone To Birds

Birds such as finches, budgies, cockatiel and other parrots love chewing and playing with Cuttlebone! Your pet bird will gnaw and grind the cuttlebone, which will also help prevent overgrown beaks. All the while, supplementing their need for calcium

These small animals will chew their way through the softer bits of the cuttlebone. However if you want you can break up larger chunks to disperse them in the enclosure.
